What was in will come in again and what was made will be re-made. At least that’s the way it seems, with all the remakes at the movies lately. Get Smart just this season, which I find personally peculiar because I am a BIG Get Smart fan, 35 years and I’ve NEVER met another Get Smart fan – ever. Seriously, I always manage to turn the conversation to classic tv and people only give me a blank stare when I mention Get Smart as one of the greats. Most people never even heard of it.
In contrast, there are enough of us Classic Star Trek fans out there to warrant some type of revisiting of the show/movies. I’m not talking about that nonsense with the next generation and different ships and that Borg garbage, she had dewey skin but was no beauty. I’m talking about a remake with the original (and best) crew Starfleet has ever churned out and Kirk as a Captain.
To Bodly Go Where Beauty Has Gone Before
The women of Star Trek deserve some credit for those uniforms, hairstyles and makeup! The Bond Girls are always mentioned as beauty icons. Maybe it’s a snub of Shatner? as if 007 were any better than Kirk, puleeze. Kirk could outwit 007 not to mention pull any one of the Bond girls in a heartbeat. But wait a minute, this is not about the men, it’s about the women!
Not only the prettiest and sexiest women ever on television but in some cases, the smartest and most accomplished. Granted, they didn’t get a chance to flex much muscle but it was a revolutionary show at the time. At least they were pushing the limits of what women could be.
Beauty brands like MAC want the Classic Trek look, I submit Neo Sci-Fi into evidence. Maybe there’s more out there, but that’s all I can come up with on short notice!
Gene Roddenberry was a genius on so many levels, it’s incredible. I’ll be featuring Classic Trek Women every few days!
