So, I haven’t told you guys yet, but the thing that started me thinking about my health and beauty in a serious fashion was forced upon me by a frozen m&m.
Some background info: Back when boy 2001 was born, I stayed home with him and did NOTHING other than care for him… Like I said, I hardly looked in the mirror and never left the house. That included not going to the dentist for cleanings.
When boy 2001 was about a year and a half or so, I had a shooting pain in one of my back teeth. I made an appointment with a local dentist and he checked it out. He drilled out the bad stuff and said I’d have to get something done (I have no idea what) that would cost me about $700. I stopped listening to him, I could not spend that on me! Boy 2001 needed a ride on jeep, doesn’t this Doctor know that I have more important things to spend money on!
Needless to say, I never went to the other Dentist to have the problem taken care of. I’ve been in a few times for cleanings but not regularly, each time being scolded for not taking care of the problem.
Why haven’t I gone? The main thing has been childcare. I never had any… my husband went on two six-month deployments overseas where I was left with NO one to leave my oldest two with and *I* simply wasn’t a priority.
Fast forward to two weeks ago. It was a cold night and I felt like having something sweet. I remembered I had devilishly hid a milky way bar (my favorite) in the door of the car. I asked my husband to please get it for me. He took off and was gone a little while.
He came back holding a big bag of m&m’s, which I later found out were frozen stating that there was no milky way in the car (I found it the next day on the front seat!).
I thanked him and took a frozen m&m not thinking bit down and cracked what was left of that back tooth.
It didn’t hurt but I went back into the Doctor and he had to extract it. So now, I’ve learned my lesson. Thankfully it is the second to last tooth and does NOT show when I smile… that’s all I need, to be a toothless hag exposed!
I think my teeth also went down hill because of all the breastfeeding. I breasted boy 2001 for two and half years, girl 2004 for a year and 4 months (stopped because I was pregnant), and currently girl 2006 is getting her dose.
Take care of those teeth mommies and bite back!!
