I'll have a picture of me up here at some point and maybe some more talk to entertain you.

Oh how I love Dove! Always great products! moisturizing, nourishing formulas that leave your skin wanting for absolutely nothing. Not surprisingly Allure magazine has named Dove’s Nutrium Body Wash as a best in beauty innovation citing a milky cleanser feel. Sounds super silky shower staple worthy to me.
Dove’s outreach to women and girls is equally impressive. The Campaign for Real Beauty in my opinion was the best and most memorable ad campaign ever! Finally a company legitimized the reality of how many women look. And poking around the Girl Scout website I ran across the Uniquely ME! Girl Scout/ Dove self-esteem program. Hopefully that’s a good enough excuse to mention that I’m a Girl Scout MOM as of yesterday! It will be a few years before we get to the Uniquely ME! program but it’s something to look forward to for sure.
Teen in the house? check out Dove’s Every Parent’s Back-to-School Tip Sheet for Today’s Teen Girl – How to Avoid a Back-to-School Breakdown. Help your teen avoid the self-esteem pit falls and smooth out her back to school season. Download the tips from the Dove website.
Visit the www.dove.us website to enter your Dove UPC’s, they’ll donate $1 to help build girls’ self esteem for each UPC!
One of the most interesting things to happen at the Total Beauty Summit last month was the time we got to spend in the L’Oreal building. The focus was on haircoloring and how to get the best results at home. You never know when this info will be asked on your next game show, think about it, you could have all the right answers!
I’ve been dying my hair at home since I was an early teen with permanent haircolor and without parental permission. 24ish years has seen the good, the bad and the ugly. My hair is very fine so I did it for the extra volume and lift which worked out well for most of the time.
The first step is one that cannot be dictated by any company – taste. I always like to have a somewhat believable shade but if you’re looking for a dramatic change that is completely foreign to your race really consider and perhaps reconsider. This is especially true when you’re going from dark to light hair as the chemicals are harsher and may fry out your hair no matter what they say.
Speaking of fried hair that brings me to the point that no one will mention… hair condition. I found I had my best results when I was active, eating well, drinking lots of water and taking vitamins. Once again, be sure the shade you select is on the box you are purchasing and that your hair is in top condition to be colored. I am quite sure that my bad results are due to my horrible diet and 7 years of breastfeeding and pregnancy which has depleted me on every front. (more on this later)
Other tips mentioned at the meeting… don’t wash your hair before dying, the natural oils on your hair protect it! When you lather the product, those suds are washing your hair so it will be clean at the end of the process.
An answer to the age old question… why don’t they sell the conditioner that comes in the kit seperately? The experts at L’Oreal have responded… the conditioner only works when used with the dye so it wouldn’t be effective.
Application is best done at home by a friend as it is really hard to get the color on yourself! Not impossible, but hard. Be sure to have enough product on hand, if you have long hair you may need two product kits to cover thoroughly.
On every box of L’Oreal dye (and possibly other great brands) there is a toll free number to call and get information and advice. One day I will call in incognito and ask some questions, I’ll report back on the experience.
Haircoloring has good and bad points. The cons are the possible damage to your hair, color shade surprises and my biggest deal breaker at this point — upkeep. Permanent color will need root touchups every few weeks or months depending on your tolerance for such things.
Haircolor pros may include, a nice change of color, texture and shine and achieving a style that compliments your personality or completes your look. Red heads are “fiery” and blondes have more fun, what do they say about brunettes by the way??
I don’t expect to color my hair until gray hair sets in which will hopefully be in a VERY long time. I suspect haircolor is an impulse buy for many women, but I would like to see more info and products that would help BEFORE you dye your hair at home.
For starters, I broke the USB on my Flip camera so that puts an end to my postponing my video reviews for a while longer. I know that probably didn’t make sense but I’m sad, and cranky, so please put up with it for a little while. For the record I did contact Flip and they don’t fix the USB component. There is a possibility that if I send in my camera, they can retrieve the priceless video and transfer it to dvd but I’m not so sure I can’t do that myself via the tv cable.
In other news I was gifted a new iPhone so I am glad to say the Razor is in a drawer as an emergency back up phone. I don’t want to sound ungrateful but I’m not that crazy about the iPhone right now… hopefully I’ll have time to download some music and applications and that will make it all worth it!
Speaking of Apple products… Boy2001 (my oldest child and darling son) attended an Apple Youth Workshop Saturday. He had a great time learning how to make videos on a Mac and got a FAB T-Shirt that he’s super excited to wear to school tomorrow. He brought up a good point, why doesn’t Apple name all their products after apples like the Macintosh computer? i.e. Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Cortland, etc… instead of all this ‘i’ stuff. Have the prods fallen too far from the tree?!
Saturday evening we went to a lodge steakhouse in South Portland, Maine — Bugaboo Creek. We are long time, die hard Bugaboo supporters but this meal was less than stellar imho. No worries as I will NOT be back any time soon but it blows to spend good money on something you don’t enjoy.
Speaking of steak, I must mention the best one I’ve had in a while was courtesy of the Total Beauty Summit NYC.
I know I still haven’t gotten around to posting anything about the summit AND now my photos are frozen on my Flip but I want to mention our night out at TAO. Although it’s not the type of place I normally go, I enjoyed the experience profusely. I go to restaurants to eat! Had I been smarter I would have looked at a regular menu to see the range of offerings but as it is I will have to judge on our group meal selections which may have been blander to cater to more people. (I like spicy food!) I haven’t had such a great steak (sweet sauce pushed aside) in AGES. Sadly, the steak was a little on the too rare side for many of the people at my table but all in all it was a great experience I’ll remember forever.
It’s midnight, I’m tuckered, see ya in the morning.

L’Oreal’s UV Protect Spray (part of the EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System) protects hair using UVA/UVB filters. Protecting hair from the sun will protect your color treated hair from fading and damage.
As you may already know, I cut off my color treated hair in August with the goal of growing long healthy hair as soon as possible. When I received this product as part of Total Beauty’s Sneak Peek I took it as a sign that I should protect my hair against future sun damage and used it on my non-color treated hair. Please note that it specifically says on the bottle: “Exclusively for color treated hair”.
If you do have color treated hair you probably already know how the sun can change the color of your hair. Hair color takes time and money so it’s a great idea to extend the life of your investment with products formulated to do just that!
My experience with the product was very good. The scent is very pleasant to me as I love Rosemary and Mint. The spray function is adequate and it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair. I’ve used UV Protect two ways. First it started off in the car, I would spray it on when I was off somewhere with the kids. Then it moved into the house next to the sunblock. It’s a great product to have for outdoor days which we hopefully will have a few more of!
It’s suggested to use L’Oreal’s UV Protect Spray with EverPure Shampoos and Conditioners. Find out what the lovely ladies at Total Beauty thought.

Fashion week is in full swing in New York this week. Lots of runways, parties and get togethers. So what are they eating backstage at the fashion shows? Generally speaking, I feel quite disconnected to fashion week… somewhere between the ‘I need a pork chop or I’m going to pass out’ look in their eyes and their skeletonish frames I start wondering what does this have to do with me??
Among the slew of press releases, I found something I could relate to… FOOD! Dr. Oz Garcia has taken up the challenge of feeding the fashionatti healthy, sustaining foods.
- Cilantro chicken with chihuahua cheese sandwich
- Hummus with sunflower greens & radicchio sandwich
- Egg salad sandwich
- Smoked tofu, pickles & bean sprouts sandwich
- Butternut squash with Asian pears and hazelnuts
In addition to that the lucky people backstage at the Rachel Roy were treated to healthy waters by Dr. Oz and AM/PM AriZona Fast Shots. AM Awake for a natural boost and PM Relax as a sleep aid. So now that I’ve daydreamed about food long enough I’m off to make that egg salad sandwich…

A beauty blog fairytale...
Once upon a time, not too long ago, a lady was tired of talking heads that didn't get her lifestyle. She longed for one place where she could record her thoughts on the many wonderful products that came into her life and made it better (or worst).
Far from obsessive, cosmetics are only an enhancement to an already full fruitful life.
Originally inspired by the tea she drank and steeped constantly, now the best part of waking up is a steamy, frothy espresso. So she may be a little fickle with her beverages!
Steeping Beauty has a soft spot for all things beautiful.
- skincare
- fragrance
- hair care
- nails
As well as all things culturally significant to her favorite far far away lands... France, Brazil, Japan, USA. Let's see where this less than perfect princess will step...
