Post from a Master Cleanse Dropout

I’ve been silent the last day or two.  I wanted to go through a master cleanse before les vacances in August.  It’s something in my French genes I think, but I love to go on vacation when most Americans are thinking about back to school and winding down their summer fun.

So anyway, Tuesday night I prepared myself mentally, had my last supper which was a baked potato with cream cheese and boston lettuce salad w/vinaigrette.  I had a little detox tea right before bed as recommended but wasn’t in the mood, my palate felt contaminated and yuck.

I started the morning with the recommended SWF (Salf Water Flush).  The SWF is basically 4 cups water and 2 teaspoons sea salt.  It’s gross, I can’t even describe it, no wonder they say drowning is an awful death.  I did manage to get all down thoguh.  As far as the effectiveness it is right on point.  It took about an hour to take effect but after that the flush was on.

I didn’t even feel like making the lemonade/maple syrup/cayenne pepper stuff until about noon.  Probably a bad way to start but I really had no desire to eat or drink anything but water.  The master cleanse lemonade was unpleasant but I really did feel lighter and “clean” almost immediately.  It completely nourished me, I didn’t sneak one bite from my kids food, it was tempting but I managed to resist.

Girl 2006 made it particularly difficult because she kept asking for sliced baguette with goat cheese.  I had to keep making it for her and it was killing me inside but I continued to resist and drink the lemonade.  The lemonade itself is not bad, the cayenne might be a lot for some people but it didn’t bother me.

I managed to drink 5 lemonades, perfectly measured to specifications of course!  After putting the kids to bed, I did more and more research and realized I not only had to do the 10 day master cleanse but really had to take care to eat healthy and vegan for at least 20 days after that.  I don’t want to be on vacation and worrying about all this so at the stroke of midnight, I called it quits! For NOW! I caved on a banana of all things.

I think the master cleanse is very worth while but I think it would be best if I do it when my kids are in school and I prepare a few crock pot meals for the family so I don’t have to think about food so much.

Have you tried the master cleanse, what’s your experience?  If you’re even remotely thinking about it, do your research!  You MUST buy the book, it’s only $7, originally from the 1940’s but published in the 70’s.  It’s straight from the horse’s mouth!

The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs

There are a variety of other books that have recreated Burroughs idea, I have no experience with them currently but will be doing more research and hope to start cleansing again in late August.  Once again, please consult your doctor and do your research, the diet itself is one thing but it seems the after care is very important, slowly adding food back into the diet and repopulating the good bacteria into your system is critical.  I’ll keep you all posted…
