Normally I would cry, stop the totes, but I am declaring this a good “free tote” because of the very down-to-earth look of them. I would definately use one of these to go grocery shopping thus saving plastic bags!

 Stop the “FREE” Totes.  I have too much, I’m trying to downsize my consumption of our resources, no I’m not a saint, I do purchase things that I don’t need and could do without. 

One of the problems is “free” totes have opportunity costs.  I waste time thinking if I want this “free” tote, a day or two of having it on my floor by my back door, a week or two of it bouncing around in the trunk, possibility of me getting all wet while trying to unload the accumulated donation (I always seem to visit thrift stores whilst it’s pouring rain for some reason).

On top of that, the need for a tote is not that high on my priority list, I may need one every few years and I like to have something that is versatile and can go anywhere, neutrals work best.  Something that folds or crinkles into a suitcase or pocketbook.  I’m not going to state my opinion on this particular tote because in certain, very limited circumstances, I would sport it. 

In addition even the classic styled ones need to stop, what is the fascination with giving away totes?  How about those beautiful organizing boxes with the pretty paper or even plastic organizing boxes, a hat box, a pouch (a la Sephora), a shadow box…

Is this tote versatile and classic enough to make it into a long term fashion strategy, non!  Do I feel cheapened by the offer, yes! Is it something I would be proud to be seen with, no again.

All around it bothers me to death that this tote is thrown in, it seems like such a waste.  I am tempted to make the purchase and accept the tote for the free samples as an added value to my purchase but I feel that I’d only be encouraging these type of offers.
