stop using animal hair, Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair

July 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Too Faced Teddy Bear HairIsn’t that the cutest thing you ever heard of, teddy bear hair?!  totally synthetic, cruelty free… I love love love it!

“All the glamour and glitz of fur without the heartache. Each brush was created using the luxurious synthetic hair, which Too Faced founder, Jerrod Blandino, helped develop called “teddy bear hair.” This state-of-the-art fiber feels identical to the soft and silky smooth hair of real animals without the cruelty involved in making traditional “animal hair” brushes.

Set includes: Powder Brush, Fluff Brush, Angled Eye Shadow Brush, Angled Liner/Brow Brush, and a Small Crease Brush in a pink metallic brush/makeup bag.”

When I’m up for new make up brushes, this is going to be it!  There are to many cosmetic companies out there making animal hair brushes and it’s totally uncalled for, they need to get the message.  Synthetic brushes are excellent for applying makeup.

Brush Faux Pas

During the Total Beauty summit I asked a presenter if their brushes were cruelty free and was told that animals were brushed and the hair was collected from the brush to create their brushes (did you follow that?)

ummm, sorry, don’t buy it.  I’m sure the company in question means well but I don’t trust for one minute that the hair is being collected in a humane manner when no one is looking… I’m sure I’m paranoid but it seems much safer to use synthetic and be sure that no animals are being abused to get their fur.  In addition to that did the animals that are being brushed consent to this procedure and use of their fur? what is their everyday life like? do they get to play and roam or in tiny little cages that stink?  If nothing else it’s animal exploitation for “beauty’s” sake and not something I’m interested in at this point in my life.

T3 Tourmaline Twirl! 1.0 The Curls Spring Straight into Summer

June 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Those Curls sure do Spring you Straight into Summer! you may be curling pretty to attend graduation, the prom, a wedding or maybe you want to look good for the family bbq.  Regardless if it’s a special or ordinary day this Spring/Summer Season is the perfect time to experiment.

Curls can take you anywhere and I’m sure I’m speaking the truth when I say you can’t kill the curl.  It’s nice to go straight once in a while with a flat iron but sooner or later the curl springs back.Stick Straight Hair

Curls can be sweet a la Shirley Temple or big, bouncy, sassy a la –insert any female celeb, like Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, Madonna–  sooner or later they want those big, bouncy curls atop their heads and demand to get them better and with as little damage to the hair as possible.  Now we’ve got a whole new range of curling irons that will curl without damage.

So you understand I love my curls but there are other times I crave straight, sliky hair and that’s usually in the heat of summer.  Here’s a picture of me with stick straight hair, thanks to a flat iron!  It wasn’t summer as you can tell by the coat!

If you’re going to straighten, I would recommend using a ceramic flat iron, I have a pink T3 that I love but of course I’m dying to try the new wet-to-dry flat irons because I can use those extra minutes to sleep in.  There are a lot of other choices like temperature settings and size of the plates to factor in so it’s nice to look at a lot of different flat irons before you decide on which would be best for you.

Compare prices everywhere you shop online and factor in that Misikko offers Free 2-day shipping (on $50+) and right now you can get a free heat-proof pad with every flat iron purchase.

I got the T3 Twirl! and love it!  there are 4 heat settings, 140 degrees to 410 degrees.  I generally use the 230 but love the effects of the 370, I have very fine hair so it’s easy to curl but I like using a tool that is ceramic ionic and has Tourmaline crystals because I don’t smell that burning dog hair type of smell that I get with cheaper quality tools.  I just wish it were pink!!

Consider Curling in the Spring and going Straight in the Summer and no matter what you do keep on coming back and eventually I will find my camera cord and will show you pretty curls and straight style.

P.S. does anyone know where I am in the picture?

Make UP BAG confessions

Here are most of the products I brought along on my trip to LA.  Some remained off camera but you get the idea.  My favorites are the Smokey Rose pallette by POP Beauty (I’ll review soon) because I can make up my whole face with it and my afterglow mascara and kabuki brush in that little silver pouch.  All of the others deserve and honorable mention, the pink T3 iron and Global Goddess South Pacific Shimmer and another favorite (I have to come up with a new word — too many faves!!) Lancome Christopher Kane Juicy Tube!  I’ve got to run, toodles…

Latina Beauty Hasblady Guzman no Split Ends

Hasblady Guzman

whoa! totally blown away by Hasblady Guzman, although I missed her show, “Split Ends”, Saturday night I have already set my DVR to make sure I don’t repeat that mistake.

Hasblady is a Columbian born beauty who’s made her mark on Southern California with her two “green” hair salons.  Coiffing stars from all the mega shows you love love, Eva LaRue, Anna Ortiz, Paris Hilton and more!  She started out life in Bogota but moved with her family to the US, by the age of 16 she was performing hair transformations at her mother’s salons.

What I really like about Hasblady’s story is that she continued on even after being refused a lease for her first hair salon.  In fact it seems there are a lot of things to like about her, not only is she intent on making women look better from head to toe. “As a single mother of two young boys it is particularly important to her that she assist fellow mothers achieve a better quality of life.”  We share a love of philanthropy and giving back, find out more about Hasblady Guzman and be sure to check her show out, “Split Ends” on The Style Network!

Spa Chinois hair cut/style

April 11th, 2008 · No Comments

I recently blindly blogged about a free service called Lifebooker.com  I’m always wary of doing that because I feel my blog is on the line and a big part of this blog is my personal experience with things not just regurgitating what’s already out there.  So, I made a point of trying LifeBooker out for myself recently and am happy to report my experience.

I made my appointment in the morning for later on the same day @ Spa Chinois (Midtown) and was greeted without incident.  Everyone was very nice, no faux snobby hoopla.  First the consultation, shampoo, cut and style and I am thrilled.  I love the cut, it is so easy to maintain and it looks great.  After the cut I received a survey from LifeBooker which took less than a minute and earned me $3 in rewards.  I also forgot to mention I got the cut for 50% off ($37) AND I hope to receive the promised Elizabeth Eye Creme soon.
