Jessica Biel Dances with Designers Harper’s Bazaar August 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Jessica Biel on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’ August edition looking beautiful in a gown from the Calvin Klein Collection.  Dancing with Designers is a spin on the show, Dancing with the Stars.  Nice way for a magazine to tie into what’s hot on tv.  The spread includes pics of:

  • Biel & Diane von Furstenberg doing the Charleston
  • Biel & Zac Posen waltzing
  • Biel & Vera Wang setting the scene for a ballet
  • Biel & Oscar de la Renta doing the Cha Cha
  • Biel & Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa dancing the paso doble

The pictures are gorgeous of course but I love to see the movement behind the shot.  Check out the youtube vid (below) for some great tidbits.

Ruben Toledo Alert, Don’t Miss…

the Salvador Dali inspired pages right after the Jessica Biel spread.  Photographs by Richard Burbridge, Illustrations by, my favorite, Ruben Toledo.  Remember Ruben from Nina Garcia’s Little Black Book of Style?  Don’t miss his NEW book FASHIO-N-ATION out August 2008.

FASHIO-N-ATION is described as a, “…collection of over 150 drawings, water colors and pen and ink portraits by artist Toledo explores with his typical Cuban Black Humor and sweetly cynical New Yorker’s eye the ever changing landscape of fashion and the body language of style.” Steidl

I’m dying to see this, but with a retail of $360 I’ll be requesting an inter-library loan some day.  Until then I’ll hang onto the Harper’s Bazaar pages.

90210 sexier, cooler, more provocative

July 9th, 2008 · No Comments

When I first heard 90210 was coming back this fall I almost fainted!  I started watching 90210 in season 2 and never let it go, I even re-watched a year when we went to Japan because the military broadcasts were a year behind.  I’ve been waiting all these years for a reunion show that would update us on where the characters are in their “lives”.  You know how they used to do for Brady Bunch, remember when Jan almost got divorced?

Whatever show I was watching mentioned Shannon Doherty, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth would be on the show but the trailer on CW doesn’t show them at all.  It really irritates me when shows use a name (90210 in this case) and then say it’s going to be “sexier, cooler and more provocative”.  Is this a show for teens or adults and families?  I’m thankful I have soapnet and re-runs of 90210 when I need them. I haven’t been watching 90210 recently but when my kids are older it will be mandatory mom time.

Here are some of the girls in 90210 scenes, I was looking for Shannon Doherty in Little House on the Prairie but it’s really hard to find a fan clip or pics. No matter what I’m sure the new 90210 will be full of beautiful ladies, styles and makeup ideas.  ’till then…

Latina Beauty Hasblady Guzman no Split Ends

April 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hasblady Guzman

whoa! totally blown away by Hasblady Guzman, although I missed her show, “Split Ends”, Saturday night I have already set my DVR to make sure I don’t repeat that mistake.

Hasblady is a Columbian born beauty who’s made her mark on Southern California with her two “green” hair salons.  Coiffing stars from all the mega shows you love love, Eva LaRue, Anna Ortiz, Paris Hilton and more!  She started out life in Bogota but moved with her family to the US, by the age of 16 she was performing hair transformations at her mother’s salons.

What I really like about Hasblady’s story is that she continued on even after being refused a lease for her first hair salon.  In fact it seems there are a lot of things to like about her, not only is she intent on making women look better from head to toe. “As a single mother of two young boys it is particularly important to her that she assist fellow mothers achieve a better quality of life.”  We share a love of philanthropy and giving back, find out more about Hasblady Guzman and be sure to check her show out, “Split Ends” on The Style Network!

Holly Winner “Make Me A Supermodel”

April 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Good things come to those who cut…

I didn’t post about this earlier, I hate spoilers, so hopefully you’ve caught up with your DVR watching and saw that Holly is the big winner of BRAVO’s “Make Me A Supermodel”.

Holly BEFORE BOB

I loved Holly’s cute little bob but that look just wasn’t going to cut it, too ordinary.  Holly needed a new look and she got one from Cutler Redken salons during the makeover episode in January and it paid off for her.

Holly in a Pixie

Rodney commented, “Being a supermodel is about reinventing fashion, it’s not just about being pretty.  Hair is so essential to an entire look and it’s the biggest change you can make in a short period of time.  As a model, you need to create trends, not follow them.  A hair makeover can define your whole image.”

Here’s a pic of the hair cut in progress, suggested products to maintain a Pixie are Cutler Fly-Away Control Stick to keep hair smooth and sleek and control frizz.  Lightly spray hair with Redken Workforce 09 Flexible Volumizing Spray to lock in the look.

Lipstick Jungle Premiere Bonfire Magazine Launch

February 7th, 2008 · No Comments

bonfire-magazine.jpg

Check out the first issue of Bonfire Magazine.  I didn’t read through it all but the pictures are interesting in a weird way. The premiere episode of Lipstick Jungle on NBC just ended.I’m not totally hooked on the show, but there were a few good lines.

“The moments before you really know a person are the most exciting.”

Criticism of Victory Ford’s fashions.  The headline read, “From New to ewwww”.  Time will tell Lipstick Jungle, I wish you well
